Have you ever considered the letters you’re reading right now are made up of their own little bodyparts? The ‘shoulder’, ‘body’, ‘bowl’, ‘character’ and ‘face’ are just a few of the ‘bits’ that make up your name. We’ve put together a diagram of the Anatomy of a Typeface for all you budding typophiles!

Perhaps already a familiar image to you, but this is still the classic first lesson in understanding the elements that make up a typeface…

Delve deeper into the biology of the typeface by visiting the Typographer’s Glossary on fontshop.com

We absolutely love this witty take on the Anatomy of a Typeface by Björn Johansson

With the world watching London this Summer, it makes sense to learn a little more about it.We’ve all seen the wonderful typographic maps of London, but we wanted to create something that you could learn a little more about those areas. So we have collaborated with Jenni Sparks to create the definitive culture map of London.

This hand drawn map of London meticulously highlights the London boroughs and neighbourhoods complete with the quirky in-the-know hallmarks and landmarks that make the city so unique.
With the print designed and produced from the mapping of the actual geographic tube map; not only is this print a design must-have, but also a handy reference for office walls and at home as great party talkers!

Full of fun facts such as celebrity birthplaces, local markets, social stereotypes, favourite pubs – they are all on there… Hopefully you’ll be able to spot your London haunts!

You can purchase a print here: http://www.evermade.com/product/hand-drawn-map-of-london

Map Coverage
The map covers most of zones 1 and 2, the map goes as far as Roehampton, Putney, Ravenscourt Park, White City Estate, Roundwood Park, Cricklewood, Hampstead, Kentish Town, Highbury, Hackeny Downs, Temple Mills, Stratford, The Olympic Village, West Ham, Leamouth, Canrary Wharf, Greenwich, BLack Heath, Leiwsham, Ladywell, Brockely, Dulwich Park, Herne Hill,
Clapham Common, Wandsworh Common, Clapham Junction and King George’ Park. Pheww! It also covers the main areas of London that you’d expect, such as Fulham, Kensington, Notting Hill, Brixton, Hyde Park, Maida Vale, The Shard, Shorditch, Bethnal Green, Islington, Angel, Chalk Farm, Camden, Kilburn, Willesden, Shepherds Bush, Hammersmith, Chelsea, Westminster, Battersea, Kennington, Oval, Camberwell, Old Kent Road, Bermondsey, Southwark, Deptford, Park Lane, Piccadilly and more!

The winners have now been chosen for the London Etiquette competition in collaboration with the Just Us Collective. Choosing the winners was incredibly tough, as you might expect from Just Us, all of the entries were very impressive and fit the brief in very different ways.

The idea behind brief being that London has a unique etiquette, which is what you get when you cross good old British manners with the chaos of urban life. Winning entries are being screen printed onto A4 paper, and of course we will be using red, white and blue, it’d be rude not to.

They are currently available for sale at evermade.com as part of the London Collection 2012.

Evermade.com is going to be introducing a lot of artists in the next week or so. We’ve got a lot to show you. We are going to start with Sam Bevington, born in London in 1985 to Canadian/Ukrainian parents, he’s been working as a freelance illustrator since he graduated from UWE Bristol with a First Class Honours in 2009.

Sam’s work is heavily influenced by the urban environment and the graphic design and illustration of the 1930′s-1950′s, which you can really see in his limited edition ‘Home Truths’ collection.

“Home Truths was an exhibition of prints I had in Spring 2010. The show was inspired by the many sayings and idioms that make up a great deal on spoken English”

Each print from the ‘Home Truths’ collection is hand finished by Sam. At first glance, you may assume the background of these designs have been put together in Photoshop. But in fact each artwork is screen-printed onto a seamless patchwork of unique pages painstakingly interconnected by Sam himself. On top of that, the prints have been finished with subtle touches of spray paint and pen.

For all of you lucky people that own an iPhone (or Android equivalent) your first port of call will most likely be the ubiquitous Instagram (with Picplz being a close Android substitute until Instragram proper lands).

Charming nostalgiary.

If you’re after something a touch more destructive then there’s Decim8.

Good for that damaged vcr flavour or artifacty wierdness.

I’m not one of these lucky people so I have to use other means.

My current faux retro set-up is my lovely Canon 60d (get one) with a Holga reproduction lens from Hong Kong (£15 on ebay).

The other option is a Lomography Diana lens with appropriate adapter.
More expensive and you lose quite a bit with the digital crop factor, but still some charming results.

Or you could just get a proper Lomo camera, but y’know, film and stuff.

Now off you go, get shooting.
